Pursana Pugge

Pursana Pugge is one of the significant theatrical productions in Kalabhi's journey. Conceived as a non-verbal theatre production, the work communicates through body language, movement, music, visual composition and performance rather than relying on spoken dialogue. This visual and physical theatrical language forms one of the central strengths of the production.

By moving beyond spoken language, Pursana Pugge has been able to connect with audiences across different age groups and backgrounds. Its visual nature, movement and performance have particularly enabled children to engage directly with the theatrical experience. The production explores the possibility of communicating story and emotion without depending on dialogue, allowing the audience to experience the narrative through action, imagery and performance.

Developed through the collective participation of Kalabhi's artists, the production uses the actor's body, movement, stage action and visual composition as important tools of storytelling. Through this process, Pursana Pugge explores how theatre can communicate meaningfully even in the absence of spoken language.

The performance journey of Pursana Pugge has taken the production to different theatre platforms and festivals. After travelling across various parts of Karnataka, the production also moved beyond the state and was presented on national-level theatre platforms. Its journey includes performances in Delhi and other significant theatre festivals, making its ability to communicate across linguistic boundaries an important part of its journey.

With approximately 15 to 20 performances, Pursana Pugge has travelled through a range of performance spaces and audience groups. Its non-verbal form has enabled the production to communicate without the limitations of language and connect with diverse audiences, including children and young viewers.

From its exploration of storytelling through movement and visual performance to its journey across Karnataka and national theatre platforms, Pursana Pugge has developed a distinctive place in Kalabhi's theatrical journey. By reaching audiences beyond linguistic boundaries and exploring the expressive possibilities of non-verbal theatre, the production stands as an important step in Kalabhi's continuing exploration of diverse theatrical forms.
