Alladin Maayadeepa

Alladin Maayadeepa began as one of the two productions developed for Aralu 2025, the children’s theatre programme organised by Kalabhi and Canara Cultural Academy. Directed by Bhuvan Manipal, the play was developed with the children participating in the Aralu workshop and was first presented as part of Aralu Natakotsava 2025.

Following its presentation at Aralu, the production was taken forward by the Kalabhi Children’s Theatre team. The play was revisited and further developed beyond its initial workshop form, with continued work on the performance and production elements.

The production was rebuilt with new costumes, stage setups and other elements of presentation, giving the play a more developed stage form. This process allowed Alladin Maayadeepa to move beyond being a workshop production and continue as part of Kalabhi’s ongoing children’s theatre work.

The journey of Alladin Maayadeepa reflects how a production created within Aralu can continue to grow beyond the workshop. What began as a children’s workshop production was taken back into rehearsal, reworked and strengthened by the Children’s Theatre team, allowing the play to develop through continued theatrical practice.
