Ajji Kathegalu – Grannies Folk Tales
At the heart of Kalabhi Theatre Express is Ajji Kathegalu, inspired by the oral storytelling traditions through which stories have travelled from one generation to another.
The Theatre Express repertoire brings together two folk-based stories Hotta Rajju and Holige Thuppa. Directed by Ramesh Benakal.
These stories are presented through live storytelling, character transformation, physical performance, humour, music and audience interaction. The performers move between different characters and situations, using minimal theatrical resources while creating a lively and imaginative performance space.
Through these stories, Theatre Express attempts to bring the flavour of traditional storytelling into a contemporary performance format and reconnect audiences with narratives that have lived through oral traditions.
