The play "Pursana Pugge" presented by Bunraku Gombeyata at the Kalabhi Theater in Mangalore on May 28, 2023, showcased at the Canara High School's Sri Bhuvanendra Sabha Bhavana in Kodialbail , Mangalore....Bunraku puppetry, is  originally a form of traditional Japanese puppetry, which is known for its excellence in craftsmanship and manipulation techniques, bringing puppets to life directly with hand movements, creating a sense of realism on stage. What sets it apart is the ability to depict emotions and movements through different puppetry styles. In this performance, three individuals manipulate a single puppet. The puppets in this play, born from the influence of Bunraku artistry, are crafted to fit the narrative and are presented in a contemporary style, deviating from some traditional Japanese elements. Director: Shravan Heggod , an innovative director recognized for his unique theatrical style on the Indian stage, holds a degree from the National School of Drama in Bangalore, where he specialized in stage direction. His productions, based on short stories by French writer and filmmaker Albert Lamorisse, have garnered acclaim in prestigious puppetry festivals in Turkey, China, Germany, and Austria. Inspired by one of Lamorisse's short stories, the current production presents an unexpected twist for the seven-year-old boy, Pursan, who finds a special puppet. A unique and indescribable bond forms between Pursa and the puppet. Jealous of their closeness, some mischievous boys attempt to snatch Pursa’s Balloon and the puppet away. However, a heartwarming scene unfolds when all the town's puppets come together to comfort Pursan, illustrating a special moment of unity in the community.
